About the Adventure

The Jomolhari Trek is one of Bhutan’s most celebrated high-altitude journeys, a mountain traverse framed by snow peaks of the eastern Himalayas. Beginning in Paro, the trail ascends through lush forests, remote yak herder settlements, and sweeping alpine meadows, culminating in breathtaking views of Mount Jomolhari (7,314m), Jichu Drake, and Tsheringmeigang. Crossing Yeli La Pass at 4,950 meters, this moderate-to-hard trek blends physical challenge with deep cultural immersion, visiting centuries-old dzongs, prayer-flag-lined passes, and sacred mountain sights.

Arrival in Bhutan – Gateway to the Himalayas

Arrive at Paro International Airport. Meet your local guide and transfer to the hotel to begin acclimatization and explore Paro valley.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery – Bhutan’s Spiritual Icon

Hike to the iconic Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), clinging to a cliffside 900 meters above the Paro Valley, serving as a spiritual warm-up and acclimatization day.

Trek Begins – Sharna Zampa to Soi Thangthangka

Begin the trek at Sharna Zampa, following the Paro Chhu river through thick pine, oak, and rhododendron forests into Jigme Dorji National Park to reach Soi Thangthangka.

Soi Thangthangka to Jangothang Base Camp

Ascend through alpine meadows and remote yak herder camps. Open views reveal Mount Jomolhari before arriving at the spectacular Jangothang Base Camp.

Rest & Acclimatization at Jangothang

A dedicated rest day at base camp. Options include day hikes toward Jomolhari glaciers, Twin Lakes, or exploring surrounding high-altitude landscapes.

Jangothang to Lingshi via Ngye La Pass

Cross the high Ngye La Pass (4,830m) featuring views of Jichu Drake and Tserim Kang, then descend into the remote valley of Lingshi.

Lingshi to Chebisa – Village Life in the High Himalayas

Walk past Lingshi Dzong and descend into the picturesque high-altitude village of Chebisa, surrounded by pastures and stone houses.

Chebisa to Lingshi (Helipad)

Trek through alpine terrain and high meadows toward the Lingshi helipad area, preparing for the upcoming mountain pass crossings.

Lingshi to Shodu via Yeli La Pass

Conquer Yeli La Pass, the highest point of the trek at 4,950 meters, offering panoramic views of sacred peaks before descending down to Shodu.

Shodu to Barshong – Journey Toward Thimphu

Follow the Thimphu Chhu river through rhododendron and pine forests, passing ancient ruin fortresses to reach the settlement of Barshong.

Complete the final trek leg down to the road head, then transfer by vehicle to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan.
